Delete Dual Boot partition (Windows 7) on Windows 8

You all must be well aware of the Dual boot feature on Windows. Many users out there use Windows 7 and Windows 8 combination for dual boot, like installing Windows 7 in one drive whereas Windows 8 on the other drive. At the system startup you are to make choice whether you want to boot the system with Windows 7 or the other OS. At times it has been found that when even after uninstalling one of the OS when not needed you still get to see the option to boot on startup. Here is the tutorial how you can delete one of the OS from the system or disable the dual boot when not in need.

Dual boot comes in handy when you want to work with both OS or to get acquainted with the Windows 8 on spare time while you are well acquainted with Windows 7 and work on it. But when intended to remove one of the OS from the system you are unable to do so. Here are some ways to get rid of the other OS from the system. For instance, in this tutorial we will be discussing about how to delete Windows 7 from dual boot with Windows 7 & 8.
Delete the partition for Windows 7. To do so, Open Disk Management using the search char. Type Disk Management in the search charm
  • In the disk management you can see the partition for Windows 7, simply delete it by Right-clicking on the volume and click Delete Volume.

  • If prompted by UAC, click Yes to delete the volume and reboot your system.
Upon reboot if you still find Windows 7 at the startup, open system configuration. Press Windows + R% and type in msconfig and hit enter. In the window, Go to Boot tab and select Windows 7 partition and hit the delete button.

That’s all. You will no longer see boot with Windows 7 on system startup.
Often users come up with issues that Windows doesn’t allow deletion or removal of the partition. In this case all you need to do is Take Ownership. First run Windows Defender or MSE and try taking ownership on the system to make changes on the system configuration. You can use utility tools like TakeOwnershipEX or WinOwnership to take ownership of files or folders on the system. Once you gain ownership you are given rights to access any file on the system within click and delete the partition that is not needed.
