Adapter Plugged-in but battery isn’t charging. Laptop battery dies out as soon as AC adapter is removed. Many users out there must have come across this situation. On turning on the system the battery drains and on plugging AC Adapter to charge the battery, the battery doesn’t charge. This can be really irritating and for a novice it can be really surprising as it would be little difficult for them to look for the culprit causing this kind of problem. In this tutorial we will be discussing about how to troubleshoot the issue.
Firstly, make sure that your AC adapter is a healthy one. Try turning on your system by plugging a different AC Adapter of same make and model. If the laptop battery charges, then your Adapter is in question and may be a faulty one and needs to be replaced. If the other Adapter showed up the same kind of problem then there might be an internal problem on the system.

Open the battery case and re-seat the battery after 5-10 minutes and turn on the system and plug-in the Adapter. See if this helps in charging the battery.
Update Battery driver. Open device manager using the search charm and navigate to the tab representing the battery. Now right click on it and select update. After updating the battery drivers plug-in the AC adapter and see if the battery is charging or not.
Open device manager and try disabling Battery driver and reboot the system. After restart try plugging the Ac Adapter to charge the battery.
Flash your system BIOS. Update the motherboard drivers or chipset. Install Drivers for your system from the manufacturer only. Reboot and turn on the Adapter and see if this helps.
The laptop battery itself may be the faulty one. If the battery is dead, then it’s time to purchase a new one of same make and model.
Hope the fixes described in this tutorial help you fix the issue with Adapter plugged in but battery doesn’t charge.
If the AC adapter pin or the hole where the adapter is inserted turns out to be a faulty one, then visit the laptop manufacturer and consult with them
